SMITHFIELD, R.I. –
The Fairfield University men's and women's swimming teams fell to Bryant University despite numerous individual winners Saturday afternoon. The men's team was defeated 166-96 while the women's team was topped 144-118 as both teams move to 3-3 on the season.
 
Junior Michelle Yoshida (Kaneohe, Hawaii, freshman Moe Osmulski (Rumson, N.J.), and sophomore Cacky Keating (Chatham, N.J.) each won two events for the women while junior Brian Friedlander (River Edge, N.J.) won three individual events.
 
Yoshida captured the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:56.43 and picked up a victory in the 50y freestyle with a time of 25.01 seconds. In the 100y freestyle, Yoshida was defeated for the first time this season. She clocked a time of 54.14 seconds but Bryant's Taylor DeBever edged her out in 53.48 seconds.
 
Osmulski, the reigning MAAC Swimmer of the Week, captured the 1000y freestyle with a personal best of 10:54.74 and won the 200y IM with a personal best of 2:14.34. Keating won the 200y fly with a time of 2:113.7, less than a second off the program record. Keating also won the 100y fly with a time of 59.90 seconds and was second in the 200y IM with a personal best of 2:14.80.
 
Friedlander moved to 6-0 in the 100 breaststroke this year by clocking a time of 1:01.62. He also won the 200y breaststroke with a time of 2:12.58 and the 200y IM with a time of 2:02.64.
 
Freshman Suzy Lawlor (North Wales, Pa.) picked up the victory in the 200y breaststroke with a time of 2:29.68 and was the runner-up in the 100y breaststroke with a personal best of 1:09.05.
 
In the men's 50y freestyle, junior Greg Bellizzi (Edison, N.J.) and sophomore Paul Bimmler (Reading, Mass.) finished second and third, respectively. Bellizzi posted a time of 22.21 seconds while Bimmler clocked a time of 22.29 seconds. Bimmler was also third in the 100y freestyle with a time of 48.49 seconds.
 
Freshman Kevin Greener (Chatham, N.J.) notched a pair of second place finishes on the day. He was the runner-up in the 1000y freestyle with a personal best of 10:31.66 and in the 500y freestyle with a time of 5:06.10. Senior Charlie Helm (Cheshire, Conn.) was third in the 100y breaststroke with a time of 1:03.91 and second in the 200y breaststroke with a time of 2:21.30. Sophomore Andrew Hiss (Freehold, N.J.) was third in the 100y back after clocking a time of 56.48 seconds while junior Andrew Robinson (Manalapan, N.J.) was third in the 200y fly with a time of 2:04.47.
 
Freshman Bridget McGowan (Port Chester, N.Y.) was the runner-up in the 100y back with a personal best of 1:03.42. Senior Katie Merz (Absecon, N.J.) was third in the 500y freestyle with a time of 5:22.89.
 
The Stags were the runners-up in all four relay events. The women's 400y medley relay of Yoshida, Lawlor, Keating, and Osmulski had a time of 4:06.63. The women's 400y freestyle relay of sophomore Caitlin Moran (West Henrietta, N.Y.), freshman Emily Pedrick (New Milford, N.J.), and Merz had a time of 3:48.52. The men's 400y medley relay of Bimmler, Friedlander, Robinson, and Bellizzi had a time of 3:41.55. The men's 400y freestyle relay of Brendan Sarpu (South Windsor, Conn.), Stefan Toi (Newtown, Conn.), Bellizzi, and Bimmler had a time of 3:19.77.
 
The swim team finishes the first half of its season, December 3-4, at the Harold Anderson Invitational at the University of Rhode Island. The diving team will head to the Wesleyan Invitational, December 4-5.
