EGG HARBOR CITY, N.J. – The Fairfield women's golf team finished out the two day 27-hole ECAC Women's Division I Championship in third place. The tournament was cut to 27 holes instead of 36 after persistent rains made the Twisted Dune Golf Course unplayable.
Despite the tough conditions, senior
Christina DeStefano (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) led the Stags with a 39 on nine holes. Combining with her day one score of 77, she ended the tournament in sixth place overall with a 116 total.
Kristen Macdonald (Billerica, Mass.) followed her first round score of 75 with a 43 to finish with 118, earning her eighth place overall.
Annie Sperandio (Lexington, Mass.) ended the two-day championship shooting a 46 to bring her total for the tournament to a 127 after a day one score of 81. She finished 30
th overall.
Claire Rothschild (Garden City, N.Y.) and
Elly Lemons (Upton, Mass.) both finished the day shooting a 44 on nine holes. Rothschild also finished with a two-day total of 127, after posting an 83 on the first round. Lemons closed out the tournament with a 128 after her first round score of 84.
The Stags followed their day one team score of 316, with a 170 on nine holes to finish the tournament with a total score of 486. Cross-town rival Sacred Heart University topped the leader board with a 478 team total. Fairleigh Dickinson University placed second with a two-day combined score of 480.
The women's golf team will continue their fall season October 15-16 at Rutgers University Invitational. The tournament will be held on Rutgers Golf Course in Piscataway, N.J.
