FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Sophomore
Paul Bimmler (Reading, Mass.) was a part of three program records while junior
Michelle Yoshida (Kaneohe, Hawaii) collected four victories to help lift the Fairfield University men's and women's swimming and diving teams to wins over Providence College this afternoon at the RecPlex. Both teams improve to 2-1 on the season as the women won 170-130 while the men won 162-138.
Bimmler was a part of two relay records, one individual record, and almost broke a fourth, while winning four events on the day. Bimmler started the day as the lead leg of the record-setting 200m medley that posted a winning time of 1:51.14. Juniors
Brian Friedlander (River Edge, N.J.), Andrew Robinson (Manalapan, N.J.), and
Greg Bellizzi (Edison, N.J.) were also on the relay. In the 50m freestyle, Bimmler broke his own program record by clocking a time of 24.16 seconds to win the event. He then captured the 100m freestyle with a time of 54.34 seconds, just shy of his program. Bimmler finished the day by anchoring the record-setting 400m freestyle relay which registered a winning time of 3:42.00.
Brendan Sarpu (South Windsor, Conn.), Cody Parker (Ocean Twp., N.J.), and Bellizzi were also members of the relay.
Yoshida posted three individual victories as well as a relay win. She captured both women's backstroke events, posting a time of 1:07.11 in the 100m back and posted a time of 2:26.44 in the 200m back. Yoshida also won the 50m freestyle with a time of 27.54 seconds, about a half-second off her program record. She also was the lead leg of the winning 200m medley relay that had a time of 2:05.35.
The Stags had numerous multi-winners on the day. On the women's side, freshman Suzy Lawlor (North Wales, Pa.) captured both breaststroke events by clocking personal bests. She posted a time of 1:16.91 in the 100m and finished with a time of 2:49.41 in the 200m. Lawlor was also on the winning 200m medley relay and on the second-place 400m freestyle relay. Sophomore Cacky Keating (Chatham, N.J.) won both butterfly events; she posted a time of 2:29.35 in the 200m fly and had a time of 1:07.63 in the 100m. She was also on the winning 200m medley relay and on the second-place 400m freestyle relay. Senior Katie Merz (Absecon, N.J.) won the 800m freestyle with a time of 9:40.16 and the 400m freestyle with a time of 4:41.81. Freshman Moe Osmulski (Rumson, N.J.) captured the 100m freestyle in a time of 1:01.89 and the 200m IM with a time of 2:28.46. She was also on the winning 200m medley relay. In addition, sophomore Caitlin Moran (West Henrietta, N.Y.) won the 200m freestyle with a personal best of 2:12.75.
For the men, Friedlander won both breaststroke events in addition to his relay performance. He posted a time of 1:07.64 in the 100m while finishing with a time of 2:29.21 in the 200m. Sophomore
Andrew Hiss (Freehold, N.J.) won the 100m back with a personal best of 1:02.33 and the 200m IM with a personal best of 2:16.24. He also was the runner-up in the 200m back with a time of 2:18.71
Bellizzi was the runner-up in both the 50m and 100m freestyle events in addition to the pair of relay records. He posted a time of 24.93 seconds in the 50m and had a personal best of 55.70 seconds in the 100m. Parker was the runner-up in the 200m freestyle with a personal best of 2:02.73 and in the 400m freestyle with a personal best of 4:20.00. Freshman
Kevin Greener (Cheshire, Conn.) was the runner-up in the 800m freestyle with a personal best of 9:12.01 while Robinson was the runner-up in the 100m fly with a time of 1:01.69.
There were two rounds of 1-meter diving on the day. In the first round for the men, senior
Brett Carisio (Cheshire, Conn.) had winning score of 152.18 while sophomore
Ryan Krebs (East Williston, N.Y.) was second with a mark of 151.95. In the second round, Carisio had a score of 170.33 while Krebs had a mark of 134.70. For the women, freshman
Abigail Sanders (Falls Church, Va.) took third with a score of 145.28 while sophomore
Kim Pettit (Westwood, Mass.) had a mark of 75.00 in the first round. In the second round, Sanders picked up another third-place finish with a mark of 134.78 while Pettit had a mark of 118.88.
Fairfield returns to action on November 6 when the Stags travel to Marist College.
