Men's Swimming Places Third At Husky Invitational

STORRS, Conn. –
The Fairfield University men's swim team placed third at the UConn Husky Invitational while the women's team placed fourth this afternoon.
 
Junior Michelle Yoshida (Kaneohe, Hawaii) captured the women's 100y freestyle with a time of 53.48 seconds, touching out Central Connecticut State's Helene Neuhaus (53.60). Yoshida also posted two sixth place finishes in the 500y freestyle with a time of 5:14.80 and in the 100y back with a time of 1:00.86.
 
On the men's side, junior Brian Friedlander (River Edge, N.J.) was the runner up in the 200y breaststroke with a time of 2:14.96. He was touched out by Fordham's Sean McManus who posted a winning time of 2:14.89. Friedlander also placed 10th in the 200y freestyle with a time of 1:51.62.
 
In the men's 400y IM, junior Stefan Toi (Newtown, Conn.) finished fourth with a time of 4:30.08 while sophomore Andrew Hiss (Freehold, N.J.) was fifth in 4:31.40. Toi was also 10th in the 200y back with a time of 2:08.95 while Hiss placed sixth in the 200y IM with a time of 2:03.68.
 
Junior Greg Bellizzi (Edison, N.J.) placed fifth in the 50y free with a time of 22.13 seconds. Bellizzi was 10th in the 100y freestyle with a time of 50.16 seconds.
 
Freshman Rich Straub (Pelham, N.Y.) placed fifth in the 1000y free with a time of 11:11.39. Freshman Cody Parker (Ocean Twp., N.J.) took sixth in the 200y fly with a time of 2:05.40. Sophomore Paul Bimmler (Reading, Mass.) placed seventh in the 100y back with a time of 56.32 seconds. Junior Andrew Robinson (Manalapan, N.J.) posted a time of 54.82 seconds in the 100y fly to place 11th overall.
 
The men's 200y freestyle relay of Robinson, Parker, Bellizzi, and Bimmler placed fifth in a time of 1:30.87. UConn won the men's competition with 854 points while Fordham was second, Fairfield was third, and Providence was fourth.
 
Freshman Suzy Lawlor (North Wales, Pa.) placed fifth in the women's 100y breaststroke with a personal best of 1:09.94. Lawlor also placed eighth in the 200y breaststroke with a time of 2:33.96.
 
In the 1000y free, junior Caroline Menapace (Ambler, Pa.) took seventh with a time of 11:48.19 whilesenior Colleen Wilson (Niantic, Conn.) was eighth in 12:25.75. Sophomore Emily Kelly (Haddon Heights, N.J.) placed eighth in the 400y IM with a time of 5:14.75 for a new personal best. Sophomore Cacky Keating (Chatham, N.J.) placed ninth in the 100y fly with a time of 1:00.54 while freshman Brianna Riley (Islip, N.Y.) was 11th in 1:03.45.
 
The 200y freestyle relay of sophomore Caitlin Moran (West Henrietta, N.Y.), freshman Moe Osmulski (Rumson, N.J.), Keating, and Yoshidaplaced third with a time of 1:41.34. UConn won the women's competition with 831 points and were followed by Fordham, Central Connecticut, Fairfield, and Providence.
 
Fairfield returns to action on October 30 when the Stags host Providence College at 1pm at the RecPlex.
