FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University swimming and diving teams hosted Rider for their first home meet of the 2016 season. The men fell by a score of 212-67, while the women lost 181-118.
On the day, the women earned six individual victories from three different swimmers. Led by Colleen Young who placed first in the 100m breaststroke (1:17.17), first in the 200m breaststroke (2:44.76), and first in the 200m Individual Medley (2:31.63). Kelly Cordes earned two top place finishes on the day, in the 200m freestyle (2:13.15) and the 400m freestyle (4:48.25). Grace Goddard grabbed the sixth first place finish for the Stags, in the 200m butterfly she touched the wall in 2:30.87.
On the men's side, freshman Jordan Rahurahu earned the lone first place finish for the Stags. In the 200m Individual Medley he finished in a time of 2:15.37. The freshman also grabbed a third palce finish in the 200m freestyle (2:02.40). Jameson Duncan also had a good showing finishing third in the 400m freestyle (4:22.48) and the 800m freestyle (9:05.34). Griffin Burke swam well in his first home meet as a Stag. Burke earned a second place finish in the 200m backstroke (2:17.06) and a third place finish in the 200m Individual Medley (2:23.70).
In diving action, Kylie More placed highest in the 1-meter dive with a third place finish (209.55). And Jane Rice placed highest in the 3-meter also with a third place finish (219.38). Alex Shabecoff placed second in both diving events, earning a 159.45 in the 1-meter and a 172.82 in the 3-meter.
The Stags next meet is on Friday when the team hosts Holy Cross at 6:00 p.m.
