Fairfield University fans will have much to see when they return to campus for the 2013-14 season. The University will be completing several projects that will enhance the game day experience for fans that attend games on the University's main campus. Many of these improvements are possible through the generous gifts of Fairfield University alumni and friends of athletics.
Lessing Field will be adding new fencing and entrances to the home of Fairfield soccer. Stone masonry piers will decorate the surrounding landscape around the grass field with ornamental metal fencing connecting the piers. The complex will have an archway with the facility name that welcome spectators at the main entrance. And, windscreens will envelope the grandstand bleachers to provide Fairfield soccer branding.
Plus, the press box will be refurbished as will the team bench area in front of the main stands. The student section has also seen improvements with the addition of a stone dust base around the stands. New hedges are also on the docket as an addition in the coming months.
Alumni Hall is also receiving updates with the addition of a new roof as well as interior improvements to the entry vestibules, new locker room windows, and exterior façade repairs.
The tennis courts will be enveloped by new wind screens as well.
A new press box is currently being construction at Alumni Softball Field, a facility that will include broadcasting capabilities along with an exterior filming platform. The bottom half of the building will provide the team with equipment storage and will house field maintenance equipment and necessities. Spectator seating will also be upgraded to enhance the viewing experience.
The basketball teams also benefit from this round of renovations as the team locker rooms in Walsh Athletic Center were redone to provide more space and improve locker facilities for the men's and women's squads. The changes will give the student-athletes a modern and state-of-the-art locker room that includes the addition of a lounge area and technology upgrades.
"We are very pleased with the new construction and aesthetic transformation that our facilities have received over the summer," Director of Athletics Gene Doris said. "Our University administrators and the board of trustees continue to show their commitment to our athletics department by providing facilities that give our student-athletes the ability to compete at their highest level."
