Like most women's basketball players, incoming freshman
Samantha Cooper will be spending her summer on the court, but it won't be just any court. Cooper, a native of Ontario, has been named to the Team Canada Junior National Team which will compete in the 2013 FIBA U19 World Championships in Lithuania from July 18-28.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for Sam," Fairfield University Head Coach
Joe Frager said. "She will be playing against some of the top international competition over the next few weeks. The valuable experience she'll gain will no doubt help her when she begins her collegiate career at Fairfield in the fall."
Cooper, a 6-foot-1 forward, was one of 20 invitees to try-out for Canada's Junior National Team. She made the team and quickly headed off to Europe for exhibition games in France and Spain in preparation for the FIBA World Championships. This is the second time in which Cooper will be suiting up for Canada as she competed in the 2012 U18 FIBA World Championships.
Canada will begin FIBA World Championship competition with three preliminary round games against Senegal on July 18, the Netherlands on July 19, and France on July 20. For complete information about the 2013 FIBA U19 World Championships,
