FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University men's tennis team came up empty handed on their roadtrip to Philadelphia falling to Saint Joseph's 6-1 on Saturday evening and 4-2 to Drexel on Sunday morning.
Against the Hawks, Brad Orban earned a victory at the No. 1 singles spot in straight sets (6-4, 6-2). Four other Stags were swept in straight sets, but Dylan Appel in the fifth spot won the first set 6-2 before falling 6-3, 12-10 in the final two sets.
In doubles action, the first and second spots fell by scores of 6-2 and 7-5. In the No. 3 position, Appel and Peter Colliard picked up a 6-3 decision.
On Sunday, the Stags and Dragons ony matched up in singes play. Fairfield earned wins at No. 1 and No. 2 by Orban and Anthony Caputo. At No. 1, Orban won 6-4, 6-1 and at No. 2 Caputo won in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. Drexel grabbed three straight set victories, but at No. 4 Tyler Shibles pushed his match to three sets before falling 5-7, 6-1, 6-3.
Fairfield's next action comes against Boston University on Saturday, February 25 at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center.
