FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The doubles teams of Brad Orban/Ofir Solomon and Jeffrey Rodgers/Anthony Caputo were named to the All-MAAC teams as announced by the league Friday night. Orban and Solomon were named to the All-MAAC First Team at first doubles. Rodgers and Caputo earned All-MAAC Second Team honors at second doubles.
The sophomore and senior duo of Orban and Solomon went 5-0 in MAAC play at the No. 1 position. Meanwhile, the two freshmen, Rodgers and Caputo, posted an impressive 4-2 doubles record in conference play mainly in the second spot. Even against the league’s toughest teams, both duos excelled. The pairs each grabbed wins at Monmouth and at Marist, both of which earned a share of the MAAC Regular Season crown.
For Orban, Rodgers, and Caputo this is their first All-MAAC award. Solomon, a senior, was named an All-MAAC First Teamer at No. 2 singles back in 2014 and in 2013 was named to the All-MAAC Second Team at No. 5 singles. But this is the senior’s first All-MAAC award in doubles play.
In addition to the All-MAAC first and second team recognitions, six student-athletes earned MAAC All-Academic recognition. On the men’s team sophomore Kumeil Hosain, junior Gabriel Pamich, and senior Ofir Solomon were named to the MAAC All-Academic Team. For the women, junior Karen McKeough, and sophomores Sarah Stuhlmann and Meghan Zimmer were named to the MAAC All-Academic Team.
Solomon is now a three-time MAAC All-Academic honoree, while Pamich earns his second honor and Hosain grabs his first recognition. McKeough was recognized last year, and picks up her second All-Academic recognition. Stuhlmann and Zimmer are both first time honorees.
The MAAC All-Academic criteria consists of completing two semesters at the institution and holding a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20.
The men’s tennis team will be on the courts tomorrow in MAAC Tournament action. The fourth seeded Stags will take on the top seeded Monmouth Hawks in the semifinals at 10:00 am at the Mercer County Park Tennis Center in West Windsor, N.J.
