Women's Swimming Earns Win Over Manhattan

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University swimming and diving teams opened their season at Manhattan on Friday night. The women grabbed a 145-116 win, while the men dropped to the Jaspers, 147-115.

The women’s team grabbed a number of individual victories on the night. Kelly Cordes earned two first place finishes against the Jaspers. In the 200y freestyle, she clocked in at 2:00.83 and in the 100y freestyle finished in 55.20. Oreoluwa Cherebin had two wins on the night as well. In the 100y butterfly she placed first with a time of 1:03.01 and in the 50y freestyle touched the wall in 25.99. Emily Vlass put together a solid performance in the pool, she earned the top spot in the 100y breaststroke with a time of 1:11.14. And in the 200y breaststroke grabbed a third place finish (2:33.18).

On the men’s side, freshman Jordan Rahurahu put together a stellar performance in his collegiate debut. In the 200y individual medley he finished first with a time of 2:02.74 and in the 200y butterfly grabbed a second individual win, clocking in at 2:00.90. Michael Sparks also earned a win in his debut in the 1000y freestyle (10:22.32) while classmate Phillip Zyskowski earned a win in the 500y freestyle (5:00.69).

The Stags have a quick turnaround as they are back in the pool for their home opener tomorrow against Rider at 1 p.m.
