Twelve from Fairfield Golf Land on MAAC All-Academic Teams

EDISON, N.J. – Twelve members of the Fairfield University men’s and women’s golf teams have been named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Academic Teams, as announced this weekend at the MAAC Championship in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The men’s program had five honorees while the women’s team was represented by seven student-athletes – both setting the standard in their respective fields.

To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have completed two semesters at his or her current institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.

Fairfield men’s golf tied Iona with a conference-leading five honorees. The Stags, who placed third on the links at the MAAC Championship, were represented by five seniors: All-MAAC performer Steve Burak (Marketing major), Eric Johnson (Finance), Joe Patalano (Management), Peter Repetto (Economics) and Steve Shiner (Mechnical Engineering).

The Stags’ women’s program also shared the conference high, matching Dayton with seven honorees. Representing the seniors on the All-Academic Team are Kate Heffernan (Management major), All-MAAC selection Emma Ritzmann (Chemistry) and Katie Rockwell (Political Science). The junior class placed Michelle Applegate (Marketing), Olivia Brooks (Biology) and Sara Quinn (Marketing) on the squad. Rounding out the septet of honorees is sophomore Jackie Schofield (Management). Fairfield placed third at the MAAC Championship this past weekend at Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course.

Both teams are under the direction of Len Roberto, Fairfield’s Director of Men’s and Women’s Golf.  The Stags landed 11 MAAC All-Academic slots in 2014, and both the men’s and women’s teams have been ranked among the top academic programs in the nation by Golf Digest during Roberto’s tenure.
