Men?s Golf Tied for Fourth After First Day at MAACs

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – The Fairfield University men’s golf team is tied for fourth place after the first round of play at the 2014 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships. The Stags shot a combined 318 on the par-72, 7,011-yard Disney’s Palm Golf Course.  

Sophomore Alex Taylor was the tournament individual leader, after carding a first round score of 73 (+1). Siena’s Scott Kim follows closely behind, with a score of 74.

Junior Patrick Lynch carded a 78 (+6), finishing tied for tenth overall with three other competitors. Ricky Dowling posted a first round score of 82 (+10) to finish tied for 25th.

Junior Eric Johnson finished off the day with an 85, to tie for 38th, while rookie Alex Ferrante posted an 86 to finish tied for 40th overall.

Manhattan shot a 310 (+22) to lead the conference after the first round of competition. Saint Peter’s is the current runner-up with a score of 315 while Canisius is a close third with a 317. Siena is tied with the Stags for fourth, posting a 318. Monmouth finished in sixth with a 319 while Iona was closely behind in seventh with a 320. Rounding out the tournament is Rider who placed eighth (329) and Niagara who followed in ninth (338).

The Stags will continue action at the 2014 MAAC Championships with round two beginning at 8am tomorrow.
