FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The three-time defending MAAC Champions Fairfield University Women's Basketball team has announced the signing of transfer Nia Green to the 2026-27 roster. Green is a 6-0 guard who just completed her sophomore season at UNC Asheville where she led the Bulldogs in both scoring (15.2 points) and rebounding (7.4 boards) per game.
Green is the third transfer signing for the Stags this offseason joining Lana McCarthy from Purdue and Paige Kohler from Bowling Green.
"Nia is an excellent addition to our program for a variety of reasons both on and off the court," Head Coach
Carly Thibault-DuDonis said. "She is dynamic off the bounce and finishing at the rim, has a consistent mid-range jumper and rebounds the ball at an extremely high rate. She can be extremely disruptive on the defensive end and will help to reload the two-way players that we graduated from last season."
Green was a Big South Second Team selection after finishing in the top-five in the conference in: scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage (.483), and blocks (1.2) all tops for UNC Asheville. She also paced the team with 10 double-doubles which included a career-high 24 points against Radford. She also pulled down a personal-best 14 rebounds and dished out five assists against Charleston Southern.
Prior to her sophomore year in Asheville, Green spent her freshman year at Morgan State where she was named to the MEAC All-Rookie team after tallying more than 100 points and grabbing 100 rebounds.
In high school, she was the Howard County Player of the Year, a
Baltimore Sun All-Metro First Team selection, an All-County First Team selection and a
Washington Post All-Metro selection for Hammond High School.
Green joins McCarthy and Kohler as the three transfer signings for the Stags this season. In total, Fairfield has added 37.9 points and 16 rebounds from the trio's statistics last year.
Fairfield completed their MAAC Championship 'Three-Peat' and have gone 66-2 against MAAC opponents over the last three seasons. Fairfield has also received votes in the Associated Press (AP) Top-25 poll in all three of their championship campaigns while placing No. 25 in the nation last year.
