CAMDEN COUNTY, N.J. – The Fairfield University rowing teams completed the first day of competition at the Knecht Cup with several boats earning spots in Sunday's events.
The women's second varsity 4 opened the competition for the Stags and earned a third-place finish in its heat. The crew, consisting of Jill Segel,
Catherine Martin,
Zoey Ames,
Molly Cleary, and coxswain
Grace Tyszka, finished the course in 8:42.42, trailing Drexel University (8:19.14) and West Virginia University (8:35.91).
The women's first varsity 4 followed and garnered a fifth-place finish in its heat behind the efforts of
Lauren Hoppe, Julie Pedrazzi,
Clair Jennings, Ainley Hoekzema, and coxswain
Emma Sieger. The group completed the distance in 8:38.96 with Boston College (7:44.60) taking the top spot.
The men's varsity 4 took to the river next and took a fourth-place placement by crossing the line in 7:16.76. The Stags were represented by Vincent Dipalo, Thomas McLaughlin, Zachary Siwiec, Tyler Siwiec, and coxswain Max Cona. Colgate University set the pace with its time of 6:39.57.
The second varsity 8 entries were on the docket with the women taking to the water first. The Stags secured fourth place in their heat by clocking in at 7:16.53 with MIT posting the fastest time of 6:51.71. The boat consisted of

The men's second varsity 8 also garnered a fourth-place finish by completing the distance in 6:19.49. Fairfield's entry included Grant Retelny, James Penzak, Owen Chandaria, Samuel Elliott, Ean Ray Connor Carroll, Zalan Kovacs, Luca Mellado, and Cedric Wysocki. La Sall6e University produced the best time in the heat with a mark of 6:03.34.
The women's varsity 8 garnered fifth place finish based on its time of 7:03.41 with UMass taking first place in 6:39.71. Fairfield was represented by

The men's varsity 8 ended the day for Fairfield with a time of 6:04.11 as Trinity crossed the line first by completing the distance in 5:45.65. The Stags group included Sean Rhatigan, Will Talay, Luke Youngblood, Luca Tarricone, Cord Catalano, Nick Tapinis, Anthony Tapinis, Braeden Gibbons, and coxswain Madeline Gross.
All seven Fairfield shells will return to the water on Sunday.
