Softball Welcomes New Haven On Wednesday Afternoon

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University softball team will complete a four-game home stand on Wednesday afternoon by welcoming the University of New Haven for a single non-conference game. The two teams will meet again on Wednesday, April 1 to complete the home -and-home series with the Chargers.

The Stags are in the midst of its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) schedule, coming off a series win against Mount St. Mary's last weekend. Fairfield won the first two games of the three-game set before The Mount rallied for a victory in the finale. Pitcher Peyton Shields put together a solid series against Mount St. Mary's, tossing 10 scoreless innings that included a four-hit shutout in the series opener last Friday. Sophomore Ava Armuth paced the Stags' offense by picking up a hit and an RBI in three of the team's four games last week.

Anna Paravati brings solid numbers into this week, leading the team with 18 RBI and 20 hits over her 24 starts at third base. Three other Stags' have reached double figures in the RBI column, namely Sammie Dougherty, Cara Kochakian, and Delaney Whieldon. Paravati and Whieldon comprise two of the team's top three hitters this season, posting a .323 and a .314 batting average to date. Freshman Sarah Bielski represents the team's top hitter with her .327 hitting percentage, posting nine RBI with two doubles and a triple to her credit.

Alyssa Weinberg and Shields combine for eight of the team's wins from the pitching circle with Weinberg's five wins pacing the pitching staff. Shields ranks second with her three wins while Chela Kovar is the third pitcher with a win. More recent, Kovar has excelled in the batter's box with her .280 batting average, registering six RBI along with two doubles and a team co-leading two home runs.

The Chargers are coming off a three-game series against Le Moyne College in a NEC action, the team's first as a member of the conference. New Haven picked up a win in the middle game of the set, giving the team a 3-3 mark in conference play. The Chargers have played one MAAC opponent this season, splitting a doubleheader with Manhattan University on the road.

Brianna Trueman serves as the team's top run producer, checking into this game with 11 RBI and four runs scored. She also paces the team with her five extra base hits, recording four doubles and a home run through her 16 appearances. Pitcher Peyton Sullivan accounts for two of the team's four victories despite coming out of the bullpen for six of her eight appearances. Katie Rhodes and Cecelia Imbimbo each have a victory in the pitching circle with Imbimbo leading the staff with 22 strikeouts in her team-high 28.1 innings pitched.

Following Wednesday's game, Fairfield will travel to Canisius University for three-game series over the weekend, the Stags' fourth MAAC series this season.
