FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University softball team will return to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play this weekend with a three-game stop at Merrimack College. The Stags will play a doubleheader on Saturday before finishing their stay with a single game on Sunday.
This road trip marks the first for the softball team in more than a week, hosting Marist University last weekend before playing games on the campuses of Central Connecticut State University and Yale University.
Over the last three games,
Chela Kovar has emerged as an offensive option from the designated player position. The junior has contributed primarily from the pitching circle since her arrival but has shown she can utilize the bat as well over the last three games. Kovar posted four hits in 11 at-bats against Central Connecticut and Yale with three of those hits going for extra bases. She registered a double and a home run in the first game against the Blue Devils and followed with another homer in the night cap with Central Connecticut.

Ava Armuth sit on the top spot of Fairfield's offensive statistics sheet, coming into the weekend with a .295 batting average. Both student-athletes have the same numbers, stroking 13 hits in 44 at-bats. Armuth has four extra base hits to date with a pair of doubles and a couple of home runs. Freshman
Sammie Dougherty paces the Stags with five extra base hits, launching three two-base hits, one three-base hit, and a homer.
Alyssa Weinberg secured her 10
th appearance of the season with her start against Yale University, bringing her 3-5 record into MAAC play. She has 45 strikeouts in 45 innings pitched, including eight in her complete-game victory against Central Connecticut on Tuesday. She fanned 23 batters over her last 17 innings pitched, dating back to nine strikeouts against Marist last Sunday.
Merrimack opened the month of March with a split against Cornell University and now owns a 2-9 overall record with an 0-2 MAAC mark. The Warriors dropped their first two MAAC games, falling by 5-2 and 2-0 scores against Mount St. Mary's.
Caity Lemay has enjoyed a solid start to the 2026 season with her team-best .323 batting average, posting 10 hits in 31 at-bats through 11 appearances. She is also the team's top run producer with eight RBI, aided by her two doubles and one home run. Megan Miller has contributed six RBI so far this season, posting six hits with two going for extra bases (one double, one home run).
Anna Gedacht has hurled most of the team innings from the pitching circle, accounting for 36 of the 76 innings tossed by the Merrimack pitching staff. She along with Sam Ryan have one win each while Gedacht paces the pitchers with her 22 strikeouts.
Following this weekend's series, Fairfield will play one game at Army West Point on Wednesday before hosting Mount St. Mary's for a three-game set next weekend.
