FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University softball team will open Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play on Sunday afternoon by playing Marist University at Albertus Magnus College's Shea Softball Complex (80 Goodrich St., Hamden, CT). The game was moved from the Stags' home diamond due to field conditions caused by recent snowfall. The doubleheader will begin at 1 pm with the second game slated for an approximate 3 pm first pitch.
The Stags are coming off a three-day stay at the Terrapin Invitational which saw the Stags play Providence College, Syracuse University, host University of Maryland, and UMBC. After playing 12 games away from campus, Fairfield will play for the first time in the Northeast with its twinbill against the Red Foxes. Head Coach
Julie Brzezinski saw her team score runs against its four opponent in Maryland, sending 16 base runners across home plate. The team has now plated four or more runs in five games this season highlighted by its 13-run outburst against Houston Christian University in the season opener.
Ava Armuth has enjoyed a quick start to the 2026 campaign, batting .344 with a co-leading 11 hits in her 12 starts this season. She is second among her teammates with three extra base hits (two doubles, one home run), one less than freshman Sammie Doughery's three doubles and one home run.
Delaney Whieldon enjoyed a solid series in Maryland over the weekend which helped her boost her numbers to a .292 batting average with five RBI over her 11 appearances. She is also tops on the team with six walks which raised her team-leading on-base percentage to .433.
In the pitching circle,
Alyssa Weinberg has paced the pitching staff by appearing in a team-best seven games, six of which have come as the starter. She holds two of the team's three victories this year, aided by 22 strikeouts in 28.1 innings pitched.
Peyton Shields is the only other Fairfield pitcher to log more than 10 innings on the season, tossing 24.2 innings with one win to her ledger.
Marist has won six of its 18 decisions on the year, also playing all of its 2026 contests away from home so far. Annabelle Geiser anchors the offense with her .370 batting average in addition to registering a team-leading 12 runs scored and a .517 on-base percentage.
Isabella Manory and Samantha Rogers represent the team's power as both student-athletes have two home runs on the season. Rogers has also provided 13 RBI through the team's 18 dates. Stella Blanchard has enjoyed success in the pitching circle, recording three wins with a 3.17 ERA and 27 strikeouts to date.
Following Sunday's games, Fairfield will return to the road for a doubleheader at Central Connecticut State University on Tuesday. The twinbill is scheduled for a 1 pm start.
