FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will host the Marist Red Foxes as they open up a two-game homestand at Leo D. Mahoney Arena this weekend. Fairfield enters the weekend in second-place in the MAAC with their 12-1 league record.
 
The Stags are coming off a hard-fought win against crosstown rivals Sacred Heart as they allowed just three points in the fourth quarter and built a 14-0 run. Jillian Huerter and Cyanne Coe led the Stags through that stretch with Coe tallying 10 of her 15 points in the final period.
 
Huerter set a new career-high with 18 points while also matching a personal-best with seven rebounds. She drilled four 3-pointers in the contest and is now shooting .453 (24-for-53) from deep in her last nine games.
 
For the sixth time in the last 10 games, the Stags held an opponent to 50 points or fewer by limiting Sacred Heart to 43. Fairfield's opposition is shooting .371 with a .263 clip from long-range during that span.
 
In their last five wins, Fairfield's perimeter defense has been even more stifling, surrendering just 10 triples with opponents shooting .169 from behind the arc.
 
Marist brings a 9-14 overall record and a 6-7 league mark into the contest. Lexie Tarul is the team's leading scorer with a 12.2 scoring clip while Justine Henry leads the team on the boards with 6.7 rebounds per contest.
 
The Stags will open up the season series with Iona, hosting the Gaels on Saturday at 2pm The women's basketball program will also be hosting their Play4Kay initiative with funds being raised for the Norma Pfriem Breast Center. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to promote breast cancer awareness.
