Stags Fall 4-0 at #26 Yale

Fairfield Next In Action In Florida Versus UNC Asheville On March 10

NEW HAVEN, Conn.-Playing their second match in as many days, the Fairfield University men's tennis team wrapped up a busy weekend of action versus top-quality opponents on Saturday evening with a 4-0 loss against Yale University on the Bulldogs' home court in New Haven.  After Saturday's action, Fairfield now stands at 1-6 overall; while Yale, ranked number 26 in the nation, lifts its season mark to 9-4.

The host Bulldogs took Saturday's opening double point with victories in the number one and three slots.  The number two doubles match featuring the Stags' team of Alex Aguiar and Calum Jessett went unfinished with the Fairfield duo trailing by a slim 4-5 margin.

Yale completed the win with straight sets triumphs at the number one, two and five flights.

Calum Jessett, playing in the number three slot, was in a battle with Yale's Jason Shuler, but their match was left unfinished after Shuler took the opening set 6-2 and led by a 4-3 score in set number two.

Luca Benaibbouche had his match at number six singles also go unfinished after he fell in a tight opening set, 4-6.

Following Saturday's match head coach Jeff Bricker stated, "We played about as well as we could but Yale was as advertised. The guys are very excited to get back to work and get ready for Florida!"

After taking a little over a week off from dual match play, the Stags will return to the courts in the Sunshine State of Florida where they will play three matches during Spring Break from March 10 through 12 taking on UNC Asheville, Marquette and North Carolina Central.
