ORLANDO, Fla. — Fairfield University Men's Tennis (1-7) fell to UNC Asheville (7-4) by a 4-1 final on Tuesday at the USTA National Campus as the Stags kick off a week of action in Orlando.
Luca Benaibbouche captured a singles victory at the #5 position for Fairfield.
All three double matches went down to the wire, with the Bulldogs claiming all three to take an early advantage. The Fairfield duo of
Kostas Kollias and
Kacper Krolikowski at #1 and the #2 tandem of
Alex Aguiar and
Calum Jessett were both clipped, 7-5.
Diego Alcala and
Pol Otin went to a tiebreak at #3 Doubles, falling by a 7-6 (3) count.
In singles play, Benaibbouche secured a decisive win at #5 – 6-1, 6-3.
However, UNCA clinched the match with straight-set wins over Krolikowski at #1, Jessett at #3, and Kollias at #4.
With the match clinched for the Bulldogs, two singles contests went unfinished in the second set. Alcala helmed the #2 slot for the Stags and
Zach Whittington played at #6.
Action in Orlando continues tomorrow afternoon – Wednesday, March 11 – against Big East foe Marquette.
