NEW HAVEN, Conn.-The Fairfield University men's tennis team opened up a busy and demanding weekend of action on Friday evening with a 7-0 loss to the Penn State University Nittany Lions in a match that that was held at Yale University's Cullman-Herman Tennis Center in New Haven. With the loss, the Stags now stand at 1-5 in the early going of the 2026 spring season; while the victory ups Penn State's season mark to an impressive 10-2.
The Nittany Lions took Friday's double point by sweeping all three matches. At number one doubles, the Fairfield duo of Kostas Kollias and Kacper Krolikowski fell by a 5-7 score.
Penn State swept all six singles flights in straight sets with the Stags' Diego Alcala at number two and Kostas Kollias at number five falling in opening set tiebreakers.
Despite the loss, head coach Jeff Bricker praised his squad's effort on Friday saying, "We battled hard tonight against a very good team. I can't ask for more out of the guys. It doesn't get any easier tomorrow against Yale, but I'm pleased with the level of play."
The Fairfield men's tennis team will wrap up its busy weekend of action in New Haven on Saturday at 5:00 p.m., when the Stags will take on host Yale University of the Bulldogs' home courts.
