FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University men's soccer team continues Metro Conference play on Saturday night when the Stags host Manhattan University at Lessing Field. The two teams will face other beginning at 6 pm.
Fairfield opened conference play with a pair of wins, one at home and one on the road. The Stags join Mount St. Mary's (2-0-1) and Quinnipiac University (2-0-0) as the only remaining unbeaten teams in the Metro standings. Both of those teams are on the Fairfield docket following Saturday's match with the Jaspers.
Manhattan has a 0-1-1 mark through its first two conference outings, opening with a draw against Siena University before falling to Quinnipiac last week. The Jaspers are one of the top offensive teams in the Metro, averaging 1.6 goals per game. The team scored 10 goals in its first four games, including a season-best four in a win over Howard University.
Tycho van Haaren paces the offense with nine points, tallying five of those markers off his team-high assist total. Nicolo Donadio represents the team's top goal scorer with four, one more than Cristiano Marsilli and Ziv Dahan. Marsilli owns both of the team's game-winning goals, netting the goals against SUNY Maritime and Howard.
Gaspar Homar Bennassar and Phillip Isaksson have split the goalkeeping duties with Bennassar playing the most minutes and holding a team-best 2.00 goals against average. He has made 21 saves which is seven more than Isaksson's total.
Fairfield's offense features the Metro Conference's top scorer in freshman
Cristiano Carlos, who has 13 points off five goals and three assists. The forward has scored a point in every game played by the Stags this season including a pair of assists against Saint Peter's in the team's last outing.
Cristian Ortiz found the back of the net against the Peacocks as well which helped bring his scoring total to eight points off three goals and two assists.
Goalkeeper
Evan Chomow places third among Metro goalkeepers with his .769 save percentage, making 30 saves while allowing just nine goals in his seven appearances. He picked up a clean sheet in the team's 4-0 decision over Saint Peter's, making six saves overall in the win.
The Fairfield University men's soccer team will continue play in the Metro Conference next week when it travels for a pair of games. The Stags will make the short trip to Quinnipiac University on Wednesday, October 7 for a 2 pm start. The road trip continues with Mount St. Mary's on the road for a Sunday, October10 match up. Fairfield returns home on Wednesday, October 14 when it welcomes Marist University to Lessing Field.
