FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer duo of
Maddy Theriault and
Payton Zaun earned weekly honors from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) with Theriault winning the conference's Offensive Player of the Week award and Zaun grabbing her first MAAC Rookie of the Week. The duo helped the Stags to a 2-0 week which included wins over reigning Patriot League Champions Boston University and Vermont in the Stags' home opener.
"Both players are off to a great start this season," Head Coach
David Barrett said. "Hopefully they can continue the early momentum they are building and only get better as the season moves along."
Theriault earns her fifth career MAAC Offensive Player of the Week award after recording her first career hat trick against the Catamounts. She also tied a Lessing Field record with seven points on her three goals and an assist. In the week, Theriault had her foot in all six goals for the Stags with four goals and two assists. The senior ranks in the top-four in the nation in both total goals (five) and points (12).
In her career, Theriault's 36 scores is the most by any Stag in 25 years and ties her for second all-time in the program record books. She is also second all-time with 14 game-winners and third with 91 career points.
Zaun picked up her first two career points with an assist of Theriault's goal in the 18th minute while also combining with the senior to set up
Ashlyn Walsh's score early in the second half. Along with her offensive success, Zaun made her impact felt on the defensive side as the Stags held a 1.00 goals against average while surrendering just four shots on target in their two wins.
The duo helped the Stags to their 17th-straight win on Lessing Field, the longest active home winning streak in Division I. Fairfield will be back in action on Friday night at home against Harvard at 6pm.
