FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Baseball team will host their final home conference series of the season when they welcome the Niagara Purple Eagles to Don and Chris Cook Field for a three-game series starting with a doubleheader on Saturday. The twin bill will start at noon while the series finale will take place on Sunday at noon. The Stags will also celebrate the 10-member senior class of 2025 with Senior Day festivities starting on Sunday at 11:30am.
The Fairfield senior class has continued the most successful stretches in program history, being a part of 136 wins in their four seasons which includes three-straight MAAC Regular Season Championships. They have also reached the MAAC Championship Series in back-to-back seasons.
Dean Ferrara,
Nick Sturino,
Tyler Kipp,
Eric Ludwick,
Grant Smeltzer,
Bo Buckley, and
Ricky Erbeck are the seven student-athletes who comprise the senior class of 2025 with graduate students:
Will Fox,
Billy Sullivan, and
Sean Meth also being honored during Saturday's pregame ceremonies.
The hitters of the class have combined for 417 hits, 283 runs scored, 32 homers, and 259 RBI during their Stag careers.
Ferrara leads the bunch with 202 career hits, ranking ninth in program history. His .361 career average would be the highest by any Stag in school history.
This season, Ferrara is second in the nation with 86 base knocks, one behind Austin Peay's Cameron Nickens for the national lead. He also leads the MAAC and ranks 32nd in the country with his .398 batting average.
Nick Sturino is also among the national leaders in walks as he's drawn 48 base on balls this season. He is one shy of tying Charlie Pagliarini for the school's single-season record. As a team, the Stags have drawn 310 walks this year, three away of tying the most in a season in Fairfield history.
Despite losing their last series at Marist, the Stags still hold the top-spot in the conference with 19-5 league mark which is a half a game better than the Rider Broncs. With a series win, the Stags will clinch a top-two finish in the MAAC and a two-round bye in the Championships.
The reigning MAAC Champions, Niagara enter play with a 9-15 conference record after winning their last two MAAC series against Manhattan and Sacred Heart. Curtis McKay is the team's leading hitter with a .322 average and seven home runs.
The Stags will conclude the home portion of their schedule with their final midweek non-conference game of the season when they host LIU on Tuesday at 3:30pm.
