FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Weather will play a role in the Fairfield University softball final home weekend against Saint Peter's University. The Stags will move their scheduled Saturday doubleheader to Friday because of an inclement weather forecast. The two teams will meet at 1 pm with the second game slated for 3 pm on Friday. The single game on Sunday will remain as scheduled with first pitch at 12 pm. Prior to the Sunday single game, the Stags will honor their senior class with a ceremony scheduled for approximately 11:45 am.
Fairfield looks to solidify its position in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) standings over the week or so, playing eight more games that could ensure its position for a MAAC championship slot on May 6-10. The Stags currently stand third in the standings with a 12-5 conference record which includes their doubleheader sweep of Siena College earlier this week.
Anna Paravati was at the heart of Fairfield's two wins, driving in four runs in the twin bill to raise her team-leading total to 29. The junior brings a .331 batting average into the weekend along with eight doubles.
While Paravati has been driving in runs,
Charli Warren sets them up. The senior is just six hits away from becoming the latest member of Fairfield's 200-hit club, stroking 50 hits already this season which is third straight season she has reached that mark. The outfielder is ranked eighth in the conference with her .385 batting average, fourth in the MAAC with her .481 on-base percentage, and is the league leader with 23 stolen bases.
Alyssa Weinberg picked up her 13
th win of the season in the Siena doubleheader, registering eight strikeouts in her seven innings of work. The junior places second in the MAAC with 154 strikeouts in 134 innings of work. Peyton Smith earned her third win of the season against Siena, helping the Stags complete the sweep with her complete-game effort. The right hander collected her third win of the season.
Saint Peter's comes off a split with FDU earlier this week, scoring 13 runs in the twin bill. The Peacocks scored five runs in the sixth inning of the second game to earn their 10
th win of the season.
Olivia Christopher paces the offense with her .370 batting average, slightly higher Tai Turner's mark of .361. Jess Forte leads the squad with 38 RBI with Turner placing second among her teammates with 28 runs batted in. Ava White has a majority of the team's wins from the pitching circle, winning four decisions with a team-best 40 strikeouts.
Following the three-game home stand, Fairfield will close out the regular season with five road games, beginning with a pair against Iona University before heading to Quinnipiac University for a three-game set on May 2-3.
