LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla.-Tadgh Burke fired a sparkling five under par 67 on Thursday afternoon to finish the opening round of 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship in a first place tie atop the individual leaderboard with Martin Hurtado of Mount Saint Mary's; one shot clear of Iona's Connor Henderson. Burke netted six birdies with only one bogey over the first 18 holes of the 56-hole, three-day championship.
As a team, the Stags shot an opening round +2 to sit seven shots behind co-leaders Sacred Heart and Rider, who each went -5 over the first 18 holes of action.
Iona and Mount Saint Mary's are tied for third place two shots off the pace set by the Gaels and Broncos.Â
Fairfield is two shots behind fifth place Manhattan after Thursday's opening round.
Backing up Burke's outstanding opening round, Peter Crowe shot an even par 72 on Thursday to finish in a tie for 15th place, five shots off the lead.
Chase Millar at +3 and Colin Summers and Rasmus Ditzinger, who both shot rounds of +4 on Thursday, complete the Fairfield five in action after day one of the 2025 MAAC Men's Golf Championship Tournament in Florida.
Play will continue in the 2025 MAAC Men's Golf Championship Tournament with round two on Friday afternoon, and action will wrap up with the final 18 holes of play on Saturday.
