CHERRY HILL, N.J – The Fairfield University rowing teams ended the first day of competition at the Knecht Cup on the Cooper River. Several boats advanced to the second day of rowing, including the women's varsity 4, the men's novice 8, the men's second varsity 8, and the men's varsity 8.
The women's varsity 4 were first on the river Saturday morning and registered a time of 9:20.70 to finish fifth in its heat. The Stags clocked in at 9:12.07 in its semifinal race which sent it to the second petite final. The shell included coxswain

The women's second varsity 8 competed in its heat and completed the distance in 7:48.72, taking fifth in its only race of the day. The boat was comprised by coxswain

The men's second varsity 8 garnered sixth place in its heat by crossing the finish line in 7:04.66 which qualified for the final at 11:38 am on Sunday. Coxswain Angeles Mendoza, James Penczak, Frank DiNatale, James Casper, Connor Carroll, Lanyon Henwood, Thomas McLaughlin, Jack Cartnick, and George Voegele represented the Stags.
The men's varsity 8 took to the water and recorded a time of 7:07.27 in its heat, advancing to the petite final on Sunday at 12:58 pm. The crew included coxswain Skye Deraffele, Zalan Kovacs, Samuel Elliott, Eamon Tonna, Nicholas Tapinis, Ean Ray, Ryan Wrynn, Brian Peknic, and Luca Tarricone.
The women's varsity 8 completed the Stags' action by securing a time of 7:41.78, placing fourth in its heat behind the efforts of coxswain

The men's novice 8 will compete for the first time on Sunday, launching at 11:06 am. The crew includes coxswain Cedric Wysocki, Grant Retelny, Braeden Gibbons, Matthew Benestad, Vincent DiPalo, Trevor Bull, John Blaney, Anthony Tapinis, and Andrew Herman.
