FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will be broadcasted to a national audience as the Stags host the Siena Saints on Senior Night on ESPNU on Thursday night. Before the game, the four-member senior class of
Raiana Brown,
Kendall McGruder,
Emina Selimovic, and
Izabela Nicoletti Leite will be honored with a special Senior Night ceremony starting at 6:15pm. The Stags will then try and clinch the MAAC Regular Season Championship and top-overall seed in the upcoming MAAC Championships with a win over the Saints with tip-off at 7pm.
The Stags clinched at least a share of their second-straight conference regular season crown with an exciting comeback victory over crosstown rivals Sacred Heart on Saturday. Fairfield trailed by as many as 12 points in the second quarter before out-scoring the Pioneers 16-5 to end the half.
Fairfield's defense would clamp down in the second half, holding the Pioneers to just 20 points in the final 20 minutes. That would help the Stags to go on a 13-0 run in the third quarter and take their first lead of the game after two Brown free throws. Brown would actually net six-straight points to take a 51-46 lead before
Sydni Scott highlighting the run with a corner 3-pointer.
The win helped the Stags clinch at least a share of their second-straight MAAC Regular Season Championship and their third in the last four years. It is also the sixth in program history.
The victory also extended Fairfield's winning streak to 18-straight, the fifth-longest active streak in the country. Fairfield has moved to 18-0 for the second-straight season and they become the seventh MAAC team to ever go 18-0 in the conference.
Over the past two seasons, the Stags have now won 41-straight games against MAAC foes with their last loss coming 723 days ago on March 9, 2023 against Siena. The 41-game winning streak is the fourth-longest active streak in the country and the second-longest in conference history.
Fairfield enters the game as the MAAC leader in 10 different statistics including: scoring defense (53.9), scoring margin (20.9), 3-pointers per game (9.0), 3-point percentage defense (.266), assists per game (18.1), assist-turnover ratio (1.34), and field goal percentage (.474).
The Stags will next close out their regular season when they make the short trip to Hamden, Conn., to face the Quinnipiac Bobcats on Saturday at 4pm.
