BERLIN, Md.–Returning to the links for the first time since March 6, the Fairfield University men's golf team had a stellar day on Friday, as the Stags sit in a first place tie with Colgate, at an even par 288, after round one of the Battle at Rum Pointe being hosted by Iona University at the Rum Pointe Seaside Golf Links in Berlin, Maryland. Fairfield and Colgate lead host Iona and Mount Saint Mary's by four strokes heading into Saturday's final round of the tournament that features 15 teams.
Individually, Fairfield's Peter Crowe fired a two under par 70 on Friday to tie for the top spot on the leaderboard in the 93-golfer event with Rider's Louie Giovacchini and Iona's Freddie Tucker.
One stroke behind the leaders sits Rasmus Ditzinger in a tie for fourth place at one under par 71.
Colin Summers is three shots off the lead after 18 holes shooting a one over par 73 on Friday to tie for eleventh place.
Tadgh Burke leads a group of Stags bunched right behind Summers at +2 (74).
Anthony Naples is next at +3 (75), and he is followed by Chase Millar at +4 (76).
Action concludes with the final round of Battle at Rum Pointe on Saturday.
