ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – Fairfield University Women's Basketball's Road Runner
Raiana Brown was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Sixth Player of the Year after averaging nearly double-figures in scoring and amassing a .570 field goal percentage in MAAC contests. Brown tallied double-digits in scoring in seven MAAC games, highlighted by her season-high 31-point outburst at Sacred Heart in early February.
"This is such an awesome and deserved honor for Rai to be named Sixth Player of the Year," Head Coach
Carly Thibault-DuDonis said.
"Her consistent effort all season long has been such a great example for so many that if you stay the course and keep chipping away, great things can happen. This team isn't where we are without Rai!"
Brown highlighted her season with a 31-point showing at Sacred Heart where she went a perfect 11-for-11 from the field, becoming the first Stag in program history with a perfect field goal percentage while making at least 10 shots. For her success she was named the MAAC Player of the Week, the All-Met Division I Player of the Week, and a National Player of the Week.
Brown averaged 9.2 points in MAAC play while averaging just 14.6 minutes in conference contests. She has finished in double-figures in six of her last nine contests including a 14-point showing in her most recent game at Quinnipiac.
Including her years at Texas A&M International and Queens College, Brown has netted 2,284 career points which ranks 18th among all active NCAA student-athletes.
She becomes the fourth Stag in program history to earn this award and the fourth in the last five seasons.
Brown and the Stags will start their quest for the program's sixth MAAC Championship title when they open Quarterfinal action on Wednesday at noon at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.
