Raiana Brown Takes Over the Town

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – There's another 'Brown' in town. One year after Janelle Brown took over the town with an historic performance against crosstown rivals Sacred Heart, Raiana Brown took the reigns with a season-high 31-point performance which featured a perfect 11-for-11 shooting as the Stags survived an upset scare as crosstown rivals Sacred Heart with an 82-76 final score. Brown became the first Stag ever, and the sixth in the nation this season, to tally a perfect shooting game with at least 10 field goals made.

"I'm proud of Rai," Head Coach Carly Thibault-DuDonis said. "She's struggled the last couple of games with finishing so she did a great job working with Coach Blake on film today and watching where she can slow down on some of her post touches. We knew we were going to be able to get some interior touches and she did a great job capitalizing."

Brown's historic afternoon helped the Stags (19-3; 13-0 MAAC) overcome their first fourth quarter deficit of the MAAC season, rallying from a slim 60-59 deficit in the final period. Emina Selimovic responded with back-to-back big 3-pointers to regain Fairfield's lead at 65-62.

Brown would give the Stags some breathing room, tallying nine points in the final nine minutes, part of a 15-4 game-deciding run.

Brown became the first Stag ever to record a perfect shooting game with at least 10 makes with her 11-for-11 display. She had three And-1 opportunities and misses just one free throw the entire game, going 8-for-9 from the line.

"She's special," Coach Carly said about Brown. "She has such a calming presence about her and her teammates look to her to give us some positivity in moments that we need it. She stayed ready all year long even when there were some games she didn't play. She was ready for her moment."

This came one year after Janelle Brown played hero against the Pioneers with a 35-point performance with a 15-for-17 final line.

A close game throughout that featured six ties and 11 lead changes with Fairfield's largest lead being just eight before their 15-4 fourth quarter run.

Brown's 31 points highlighted a trio of Stags in double-figures with Kaety L'Amoreaux tallying 15 and Selimovic finishing with 14, including those vital 3-pointers in the fourth. Jillian Huerter swished through three 3-pointers for the second-straight game as she finished with nine.

The Stags improve their conference record to a perfect 13-0 and their conference winning streak to 36-straight games which is the fifth-longest active streak in the country.

Fairfield will now return home to Leo D. Mahoney Arena to host Saint Peter's and celebrate Black Excellence with a Thursday night game at 7pm.
