Stags Cruise Past Marist; Move to 12-0 in MAAC

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team kept their winning ways going as they cruised to their 12th-straight win with a convincing 80-49 win over Marist. The victory improves Fairfield's conference record to a perfect 12-0 and extends their winning streak over MAAC opponents to 35-straight, the second-longest in conference history.

Fairfield tied a season-high with 15 made 3-pointers with eight different student-athletes sinking a three.

"It's something we talked a lot about in the last three or four days that offensively we had to clean up and be a little crisper," Head Coach Carly Thibault-DuDonis said. "It was good to see that not only was our spacing better and our ball movement was better but we knocked down some of those open looks."

The Stags (18-3; 12-0 MAAC) entered the game leading the MAAC with 9.0 3-pointers per game, upped that total with 15 made on a 44 percent clip. It was the 10th time this season the Stags have connected on double-digit trifectas and the 23rd time in the last two seasons.

Eight different Stags hit at least one 3-pointer with Kaety L'Amoreaux and Jillian Huerter leading the way with three.

In total, the Stags would shoot 44 percent from long-range and a staggering 90 percent from the free throw line.

Fairfield was in control all game long as they led for 39 minutes of the game. Fairfield grabbed an impressive 11-point lead at the end of the first quarter, jumping out to a 16-5 advantage.

Fairfield's defense, who entered the game ranked ninth nationally, was stifling again holding the Red Foxes to a .333 field goal percentage and just 20 percent from deep. It marked the seventh conference game where the Stags have held an opponent under 50 points.

Fairfield led by as many as 36 in the fourth quarter.

Ten different Stags got into the scoring column with a quartet of Stags reaching double figures. L'Amoreaux led the bunch with 17 points while Raiana Brown put in 12, Izabela Nicoletti Leite added 11 and Meghan Andersen chipped in 10.

Nicoletti Leite orchestrated the offense with a game-high seven assists without committing a turnover. The Fairfield point guard entered the contest leading the conference in assist-turnover ratio and placing second in assists.

Andersen filled out the stat sheet with 10 points, nine rebounds, two blocks, and two steals.

Fairfield will hit the road closer to home with a crosstown rivalry game at Sacred Heart on Saturday at 2pm.
