FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will head to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., to battle the Marist Red Foxes on Thursday night at 7pm. The Stags will be looking to improve their conference-best 12-0 mark and remain in first-place in the MAAC. Overall, the Stags have won 34-straight games against conference opponents, which is the second-longest streak in league history and the fifth-longest active streak in the country.
The Stags used another third quarter barrage to down Iona in their last game, outscoring the Gaels 16-2 in the third quarter.
Cyanne Coe and
Kaety L'Amoreaux paced the team on the offensive end with 14 points and the duo combining to shoot 13-for-17 from the field.
Coe has been efficient offensively all season long, especially in the last two weeks as she is shooting 89 percent (24-for-27) in the last four games. In MAAC contests, she is shooting 79 percent which is nearly 190 points higher than the next closest MAAC student-athlete.
Fairfield has found success in the third quarter lately, averaging 24.3 points in the third quarter in the last six games. In total, the Stags have actually scored more points in the third than any other quarter with a 21.5 average. That tops Fairfield's scoring output in the: fourth (18.3), second (17.2), and the first (16.3).
The Fairfield defense held their conference opponent under 50 points for the sixth time this season with Iona totaling 46. The Stags enter the contest with a MAAC-best scoring defense allowing just 53.9 points per game, a number that ranks ninth in the nation.
Marist enters play with a 6-4 league mark, winning three of their last four games. Morgan Lee is the team's leading scorer (12.9) and rebounder (7.8).
Fairfield will have another quick road trip as the face inner-city rivals Sacred Heart on the road on Saturday at 2pm.
