FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team garnered one vote in the latest Associated Press Top-25 poll, their first votes in the poll since the first week of the season. The Stags are riding a 16-game winning streak and enter the week in first place in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) with a 16-0 record.
"I am so proud of how our team has continued to chip away all season long to get better and be consistent, day after day," Head Coach
Carly Thibault-DuDonis said. "Fairfield University is a special place, and one that is deserving of national attention. I'm glad we have the opportunity to represent the Stags and bring the Fairfield name into the national conversation in Women's basketball."
Fairfield spent three weeks in last season's AP Top-25 poll, claiming the No. 25 ranking during their historic 30-win season. This year, Fairfield boasts a perfect 16-0 record against the conference while also picking up wins against schools from the ACC, SEC, and Big East.
The Stags also hold one of the best offenses in the country, placing in the top-20 in the nation in: scoring margin (21.3), 3-pointers per game (9.2), field goal percentage (.473), assists per game (18.1), assist-turnover ratio (1.35), and bench points per game (26.3).
Fairfield also holds the MAAC's best scoring defense at 53.5 points per game, ranking in the top-10 in Division I. The Stags have also held 11 MAAC opponents to 50 points or fewer while forcing an average of 20.3 turnovers in conference games.
The Stags will begin the final two weeks of the regular season, starting with a game at Mount St. Mary's on Thursday at 7pm.
