Stags Close Out Road Trip at Richmond on Sunday

RICHMOND, Va. – After a non-conference schedule that featured 4,471 miles of travel, the Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will close out the road portion of their non-conference slate when they take on Richmond on Sunday at 2pm. The Spiders were chosen as the preseason favorites in the Atlantic-10, becoming the third squad the Stags will face who earned the top-spot in their conferences' preseason polls.

The Stags' non-conference slate has also featured six teams that reached national postseasons last season, including Richmond, who earned a No. 8 seed in the NCAA Tournament while reaching the Round of 32.

Both teams started the weekend receiving votes in the Associated Press (AP) Top-25 poll with Richmond tallying seven.

Fairfield is coming off a three-point loss to MEAC favorites Howard on Friday. The Stags rallied from a 10-point deficit in the second half and grabbed a lead in the fourth quarter. The Bison would use eight free throws down the stretch to regain the advantage and the Stags could not get a potential game-tying shot off in the final seconds.

The Stags started the game red-hot from 3-point range, connecting on seven 3-pointers in the first quarter at a 58 percent clip. Fairfield would go on to hit 13 3-pointers in the contest, increasing their Division I leading 3-pointers per game average to 12.6. Fairfield has also hit double-digit 3-pointers in six of their first seven games this season.

Kaety L'Amoreaux led the Stags with her eighth career 20-point game by netting a game-high 23. She had an efficient offensive game by going 6-for-9 from the floor and 3-for-6 from behind the 3-point line. For the season, she is among the national leaders in several categories, ranking in the top-100 in the country in: free throw percentage (.912), points per game (17.9), assists per game (4.9), 3-pointers per game (2.6), and 3-point percentage (.400). She has earned two MAAC Player of the Week awards, the first two of her career.

Richmond enters the game with a 7-2 record after back-to-back wins against Green Bay and Loyola Chicago. Maggie Doogan is the team leader with a 23.0 scoring average while also leading the Spiders with 9.9 rebounds per game.

Fairfield will close out their non-conference schedule when they welcome Maine to Leo D. Mahoney Arena on Friday at 7pm.
