FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will play their first game in front of their home fans when they welcome the Lehigh Mountain Hawks to Leo D. Mahoney Arena for the 2025-26 home opener. The Stags will enter their fourth season inside Mahoney Arena where they have tallied a 34-6 record. Tip-off is scheduled for 7pm.
The Stags are coming off a convincing 75-63 victory over Villanova in the season opener on Wednesday night. Fairfield was led by their junior Road Runner
Meghan Andersen who erupted for a career-high 35 points, including the 1,000th of her career. The 35 points are tied for the most by any Division I player in a season opener in the last three years, and the most since Fairfield's Callie Cavanaugh in 2022-23.
Andersen reached another milestone in her already historic career, becoming the 35th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points and tied Fairfield's all-time leading scorer Gail Strumpf-Cheney as the second-fastest to reach the feat in 67 games. She is also one of two Stags all-time with three separate 30-point games joining Fairfield Hall of Famer Katrina Fields.
Andersen carried the Stags in the fourth quarter, netting 15 of the team's first 18 points of the quarter to break a tied score.
The win over Villanova was Fairfield's second-straight over the Wildcats and their third against Big East competition in just four tries.
Aside from Andersen's heroics, two other Stags reached double figures in scoring with
Kaety L'Amoreaux (17) and
Jillian Huerter (13).
Cyanne Coe led the rebounding battle with a game and career-high nine boards.
Fairfield and Lehigh will be meeting for the sixth time in program history and the first time since 2017. The Mountain Hawks won the Patriot League last season with a 27-7 overall record and a 17-3 league mark. The team is coming off an 88-85 victory over Cincinnati in their season opener with Whitney Lind leading the way with 26 points.
The Stags will next hit the road for the inaugural WBCA Challenge in Las Vegas, Nev., when they take on South Florida (Thursday) and nationally-ranked North Carolina (Saturday). Both contests are scheduled for 6pm EST.
