FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will welcome over 3,000 local school kids to Leo D. Mahoney Arena when they take part in their annual Kids' Day Out contest while taking on New Haven on Tuesday at 11am. Fairfield has won back-to-back Kids' Day Out contests, including last season's victory over Manhattan in front of a Mahoney Arena record 3,573 fans.
The Stags will enter the contest with a 3-1 record after splitting their two games in the WBCA Challenge in Las Vegas, Nev., last week. Fairfield was victorious over American Athletic Conference Preseason favorite South Florida in their opener before falling to nationally-ranked North Carolina.
Kaety L'Amoreaux was the highlight of Fairfield's success in the tournament, averaging 21.5 points per game while also filling the stat sheet with 7.0 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game. Those numbers propelled L'Amoreaux to earn her first career MAAC Player of the Week award. The week brought her scoring average up to 19.0 points per game, which is second in the conference and in the top-50 in the country.
In the setback against UNC,
Janelle Brown entered the starting lineup for the first time this season and turned in a perfect shooting night which featured a 5-for-5 showing on the floor and 5-for-5 from the free throw line.
Brown, L'Amoreaux, and
Jillian Huerter are a combined 38-for-38 from the free throw line as the Stags are the only team in the country to have three separate players shooting 1.000 from the charity stripe. As a team, the Stags are shooting 85 percent from the line which is fourth in the nation.
New Haven will enter play with a 2-3 record in their first season as a Division I program. Lindsay Hogan is the team leader with 15.6 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. This will be the first meeting between the two schools since 1981.
Fairfield will next embark on a three-game road trip which starts with a matchup against another nationally-ranked opponent when the Stags visit Iowa to take on the Hawkeyes on Sunday at 1pm EST.
