EDISON, N.J. – Following a dominant week in the middle for Fairfield University Volleyball,
Maya Walker has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Player of the Week. Walker had 20 kills at a .613 clip and got a hand on nine blocks in six sets of work in a 2-0 week for the Stags.
For the week, Walker had 20 kills with just one error on 31 swings to tally her .613 hitting percentage. The senior currently leads the MAAC and ranks ninth in the nation with a .435 hitting percentage this season. She hit .846 with 11 kills on 13 errorless swings in Friday evening's sweep of Niagara and added nine more kills while attacking at a .444 rate in the 3-0 win over Canisius on Saturday.
Walker's nine blocks boosted her season total to 106 and her career mark to 412 – second all-time in program history. She ranks third in the MAAC this season at 1.10 blocks per set.
Walker and the Stags are currently in first place in the MAAC at 15-1 as a part of a 21-5 overall record – Fairfield's 20th season in the last 30 with at least 20 victories. The Stags enter the final week of the regular season – Nov. 14-15 at Manhattan and Iona – needing one win to secure at least a share of the MAAC Regular Season Championships and two victories to guarantee home court advantage for the upcoming MAAC Tournament.
