FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Mamie Krubally recorded the 1,000th kill of her career to highlight a 3-0 sweep for Fairfield University Volleyball over visiting Rider on Saturday at Leo D. Mahoney Arena. The Stags closed out the match – a rematch of last season's conference championship final – by set scores of 25-23, 25-14, and 25-16.
The win improved Fairfield to 13-5 overall and 7-0 in the Metro Conference, while Rider dropped to 3-13 overall and 2-5 in conference play.
Krubally is the 15th Stag to reach 1,000 career kills and the first since Skyler Day in the 2017 season. Including her eight finishers today, Krubally sits at 1,001 kills on .299 hitting in her four-year Fairfield career.
"One thousand kills is still an exclusive club here at Fairfield, and Mamie certainly belongs among those names. She has been a consistent presence on the right side for us since Day 1 and has only continued to improve in her ability and shot selection and all the things that go into reaching 1,000 kills and counting," said Head Coach
Nancy Somera. "It's also a credit to setters Blakely Montgomery,
Abby Jandro, Zofia [Sykut], Noella [Migliuri], and all of the other setters and passers and teammates over the years who have kept our offense running with Mamie as a well-deserved focal point for the last four seasons."
Krubally's eight kills today at Mahoney Arena came on .438 hitting as she improved her season rate to .373 overall and .491 against Metro Conference foes. Also on the right side,
Emma Bortolotti had a team-best nine kills.
The balanced Fairfield attack also saw
Harlan Wyche put down five kills, three apiece from
Sophia Nagy and
Aislin Oldach, and two for
Julie Dufourt.
Zofia Sykut and
Noella Migliuri ran the offense to a .250 hitting percentage with 13 and 12 assists, respectively.
Natalie Carlin also posted seven assists from the libero spot, and Migliuri chipped in on the scoring side of the equation with two kills.
Carlin also put two points on the board with a pair of aces, while Sykut, Cook, and Wyche served up one apiece.
In the back row, Carlin recorded a team-best 12 digs. Migliuri added nine, and Cook posted eight. Dufourt turned in seven digs in just two sets of action. At the net, Wyche improved her standings as the Metro's leading blocker with six, including her 100th of 2026. Nagy had a hand in five of the Stags' 11 team blocks and Krubally was a part of four as the Stags reached double-digit blocks for the sixth consecutive match. All told, Fairfield limited Rider to a .096 team hitting percentage.
"That was the kind of defensive performance and intensity that fire me up," said Somera. "We had players diving and making saves; we didn't give away any easy points and gave our offense a chance to finish off more of those longer and sometimes chaotic rallies. That type of intensity is something we've needed to improve, and I think today was an example of the team we can be when we do that at a high level."
Makenna Mason paced Rider with 22 assists and a match-high 14 digs, adding three kills and a service ace. Rylah Robinson led the Broncs with eight kills and added six digs, while Molly Rohde featured in team-high four of Rider's seven blocks.
The Stags are back on the road next weekend for trips to Marist and Siena on Oct. 16-17.
