Andersen Named MAAC Player of the Week

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Women's Basketball Road Runner earned the first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Player of the Week award of the season after dropping 30 points in both of Fairfield's wins this week. Andersen's 32.5 scoring average led the entire nation during the season's opening week which was highlighted by a career-high 35-point explosion in the win over Villanova.

"Saying that I am proud of Meg is an understatement," Head Coach Carly Thibault-DuDonis said. "She approached the preseason with an elevated mentality—confident, resilient, and tough. Her increased activity on both ends of the floor has greatly boosted her overall impact; she's rebounding, defending, and scoring at a high level. What I love most is her decision-making; she's showing great awareness of when to attack and when to create opportunities for her teammates."

Andersen began her season with an historic performance that not only saw her set a new personal-best with 35 points in the road win over Big East Villanova, it also saw her reach the 1,000-point milestone. She became the 35th Stag all-time to reach that number and ties Fairfield's leading scorer Gail Strumpf-Cheney as the second-fastest Stag to reach the milestone at just 67 career games.

She followed that performance with another historic game, setting a women's basketball Mahoney Arena record with 30 points in Fairfield's win over reigning Patriot League Champions Lehigh. She drilled six 3-pointers in the victory, setting a new personal-best as she went 6-for-10 from behind the arc.

Her 32.5 scoring average was the most by any Division I player in the season's opening week and her 4.5 3-pointers per game ranks her third in the country. She also leads the conference with a .605 field goal percentage while also shooting .563 from behind the 3-point arc.

Andersen's performance helped the Stags win both of their games to start the season and improve their overall mark to 61-7 since the start of 2024.

Fairfield will now head to Las Vegas, Nev., to take part in the inaugural WBCA Challenge where they will face South Florida (Thursday) and North Carolina (Saturday). Both games are scheduled for 6pm EST.
