LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. — Fairfield University Volleyball dropped Set 1 on Friday evening at Siena before rebounding with three straight set wins to close out a 3-1 victory over the host Saints. The Stags took the match by scores of 22-25, 25-22, 25-19 and 25-15.
With the win, Fairfield improved to 18-5 overall and 12-1 in the MAAC. The Stags maintained their one-match lead in the standings ahead of second-place Quinnipiac, and gained a match over Niagara, which dropped to third place with a 3-1 loss this evening at Rider. Siena fall to 11-16 overall record and a 6-7 mark in conference play.
Fairfield, which swept Siena at Mahoney Arena earlier this month, takes both ends of the season series with the Saints and has now won 25 straight meetings with one of their historic MAAC rivals.
All six Fairfield hitters had at least eight kills, led by
Emma Bortolotti's 16 on .560 hitting.
Allie Elliott and
Mamie Krubally each put down a dozen,
Katelyn Cook recorded 11, and the middle hitting duo of
Maya Walker and
Harlan Wyche had eight kills apiece. Fairfield pounded out a .360 team hitting percentage, punctuated by a .536 clip in Set 4 to seal the match.
The attack was managed by
Zofia Sykut and
Abby Jandro with 32 and 26 assists, respectively.
Defensively,
Allie Elliott led all players with 17 digs, and
Katelyn Cook registered 11 as each pin hitter recorded a double-double in the contest.
Delaney Moon donned the libero jersey and contributed 10 digs, and
Abby Jandro picked up nine.
The effort at the net produced nine blocks, led by seven from Wyche – the MAAC leader in blocks. Cook added four put-downs, while Krubally and Walker each had a hand in two rejections.
Siena was led by Doga Diraz with 16 kills on .452 hitting. Gabrielle Wire chipped in 13 kills for the Saints, and Mary Claire Deacy finished with nine.
Tomorrow afternoon, the Stags ring in November at McCann Arena for a 4 p.m. clash with Marist. The Red Foxes, who are currently in action at home against Sacred Heart, began the weekend at 7-17 overall and 5-7 in MAAC contests.
