FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Volleyball completed a home-and-home season sweep of Sacred Heart with a 3-0 victory over the host Pioneers on Tuesday evening at the Pitt Center.
Maya Walker powered the Stags' attack with 10 kills on 11 swings and fueled the defense with five total blocks.
With the win, Fairfield improved to 17-5 on the season and 11-1 in the MAAC. Sacred Heart slipped to 8-16 overall with a 5-7 league tally.
Walker's 10 kills on 11 swings boosted her MAAC-leading hitting percentage to .417, including a .471 mark against conference foes. The senior entered the day ranked 26th in the nation in attack efficiency.
As a unit, the Stags hit .376 in the contest, committing only eight attack errors in the match.
Emma Bortolotti added a .455 clip with five kills on 11 errorless swings.
Mamie Krubally a team-best 11 kills for the third consecutive match, this time racking up her finishers on .409 hitting.
Lindsey Healey set a new career high with nine kills from the pins, while
Allie Elliott chipped in six kills and
Harlan Wyche put down four.
Setting duties were shared by
Abby Jandro and
Zofia Sykut, who doled out 20 and 17 assists, respectively.
After racking up a season-best 16 blocks in the September win over Sacred Heart at Mahoney Arena, the Stags piled up 12 more stuffs in tonight's contest across town.
Harlan Wyche had a hand in seven rejections, including two solo efforts, with Walker getting a piece of five and Krubally playing a part in four send-backs.
At the net,
Katelyn Cook donned the libero jersey and led all players with 15 digs to go along with her three service aces. Elliott also reached double figures with 11 digs, Jandro had seven, and
Nicole Macalintal picked up five. All told, Fairfield's defense effort stifled the Pioneers to the tune of a .149 hitting percentage.
Sacred Heart was led by 12 kills at a .276 clip from Ryleigh Short. Lauren Hubert pitched in five kills and seven digs for the Pios.
Up next, the Stags round out their five-match road swing with weekend treks to Siena (Oct. 31) and Marist (Nov. 1). The Saints and Red Foxes met this evening in Loudonville with host Siena taking a 3-1 final. Fairfield swept both squads at Mahoney Arena in mid-October.
The Stags return home the following weekend to host Niagara (Nov. 7) and Canisius (Nov. 8) in their only regular season meetings with the MAAC's Western New York contingent.
