Stags Sweep Merrimack to Remain Atop MAAC Standings

Fairfield clinches 30th straight season with a winning record in MAAC play

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. — Fairfield University Volleyball got back on track on Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 sweep at Merrimack. The Stags hit .350 for the match, led by 11 kills off the swing of Mamie Krubally for the second consecutive contest.
 
With the victory, Fairfield improved to 10-1 in the MAAC to clinch their 30th consecutive winning season in conference play as a part of a 16-5 overall record. Merrimack slipped to 5-15 on the year and 3-8 in league matches. Fairfield took the match by scores of 25-18, 25-18, and 25-18.
 
The Stags' .350 hitting percentage saw five primary hitters swinging over .300 on the day. Krubally's 11 kills came at a .563 clip while fellow right side hitter Emma Bortolotti put down 10 kills on .600 hitting. Allie Elliott led the left side with nine kills hitting .375, falling just shy of a double-double with 13 digs to her credit.
 
In the middle, Harlan Wyche and Maya Walker each hit .333 en route to five and three kills, respectively. Lindsey Healey rounded out the attack with four finishers.

The attack was managed by Zofia Sykut and Abby Jandro with 17 and 13 assists, respectively. Sykut also recorded nine digs.
 
Defensively, Katelyn Cook made her debut in the libero spot and delivered a match-leading 15 digs. In addition to the baker's dozen for Elliott and nine by Sykut, the Stags' back row benefitted from eight digs by Nicole Macalintal.
 
At the net, Maya Walker put down four blocks (one solo), pacing the Stags to eight team rejections. Elliott and Healey each got a piece of three stuffs and Wyche had a hand in two Fairfield blocks. The Stags' defense limited Merrimack to a .077 hitting percentage.
 
Mckenna Shotwell led the Warriors with nine kills and nine digs.
 
Fairfield's five-match road trip rolls on this Tuesday, Oct. 28 with one of the shortest trips in Division I volleyball – a visit to Sacred Heart. The Pioneers, who host Quinnipiac this evening, are currently 8-14 overall and 5-5 in MAAC outings.
