Rowing Takes Top Three Placements At The Head Of The Housatoic

SHELTON, Conn. – The Fairfield University men's and women's rowing teams started their 2025-26 season today by competing in the Head of the Housatonic. The men's first varsity 8 highlighted the day with a second-place finish in the collegiate eight while the women's first varsity four garnered third place in the collegiate four.
 
The men's first varsity started the day for Fairfield by completing the distance in 13:45.61, just off the pace set by winner Lehigh (13:28.14). The Stags' entry was comprised by Zalan Kovacs, Will Talay, Anthony Tapinis, Sean Rhatigan, Luke Youngblood, Luca Tarricone, Andrew Retelny, Braeden Gibbons and coxswain Cedric Wysocki.
 
The second varsity boat crossed the finish line in 11th place based on its time of 14:21.43 based on the efforts of Eamon Tonna, Andrew Herman, Tom McLaughlin, Sam Elliott, Brian Peknic, Luca Mellado, Tyler Siwiec, Zach Siwiec, and coxswain Ryan McDonald. The third varsity shell completed the event for Fairfield, taking the 20th slot by clocking in at 15:35.26. The crew included Maxim Tsavaris, Dillon Fall, Mathew Benestad, Charles Grant, Nick Tapini, Vincent Dipalo, John Blaney, Trevor Buti, and coxswain Max Cona.
 
In the women's open 4, the Stags took third place by rowing the course in 16:53.05 with Squire, Conrad, O'Brien, Cullen, and coxswain Tomlinson representing Fairfield. The second four garnered a ninth-place finish by completing the course in 18:04.48.
 
The first varsity 8 secured a fifth placement in the collegiate 8 event, completing the distance in 15:15.22. The Stags entry consisted of Molly Squire, Audrey DiMarino, Zuzanna Janusz, Victoria Conrad, Grace McDonough, Nora O'Connell, Shawn O'Brien, Kelly Cullen, and coxswain Alisa Tsavaris.
 
The B boat garnered an eight-place performance with a time of 16:55.37 behind Ava Gonnella, Clair Jennings, Julianna Pedrazzi, Sophia Counts, Grace Polatsek, Sasha Atencio, Cailey Chechitelli, Jillian Segel, and coxswain Emma Sieger. The third shell was one place behind their the second crew, crossing the line in 17:02.30. The grouping included Ainsley Hoekzema, Lauren Hoppe, Jill Newman, Annabelle Langlais, Sadie Eppinger, Zoey Ames, Raquel DeLeo, Lucienne Greisman, and coxswain Leah Murphy.
 
The Fairfield University men's and women's rowing teams will return to the water next weekend at the Head of the Charles in Cambridge, Mass.
