CAMDEN COUNTY, N.J. – The Fairfield University rowing teams ended the second day of competition at the Knecht Cup as the Stags sent seven entries into Sunday's events.
The men's varsity 8 and the men's second varsity 8 both highlighted the day by taking first place in their respective Petite final. The men's varsity 8 finished the course in 6:13.60 which was just .31 seconds ahead of Lehigh University. The second varsity 8 took its race with more comfort as its winning time of 6:16.76 was nearly four seconds better Embry-Riddle University (6:20.50).
The varsity 8 shell included

Madeline Gross. The second varsity 8 boat was comprised by Grant Retelny, James Penzak,

Ean Ray Connor Carroll,
Zalan Kovacs,
Luca Mellado, and
Cedric Wysocki.
The men's varsity 4 took sixth place overall by competing in the Final, garnering a time of 7:34.95. Fairfield was represented by Vincent Dipalo,
Thomas McLaughlin, Zachary Siwiec,
Tyler Siwiec, and coxswain
Max Cona. Temple University won the event in 6:45.31.
The women's varsity 8 secured fifth place during its run in the final 4, completing the distance in 7:04.67 behind the efforts of Shawn O'Brien, Kelly Cullen, Zuzanna Janusz, Victoria Conrad, Molly Squire, Audrey DiMarino, Grace McDonough, Sophia Savage, and coxswain Lexi Tomlinson. Marist University crossed the line first by finishing in 6:51.44.
The women's second varsity 8 also competed in its final 4 and secured sixth place by posting a time of 7:35.51. The crew consisted of Sasha Atencio, Cailey Chechitelli, Miranda Schmidt, Sophie Counts, Nora O'Connell, Caity Gregitis, Mia Van Mater, Sadie Eppinger, and coxswain Leah Murphy. Bucknell University set the pace with its time of 7:16.95.
The women's first varsity 4 advanced to the final 4 and came away with a fifth-place finish, completing the course in 9:00.20 behind the efforts of Lauren Hoppe, Julie Pedrazzi, Clair Jennings, Ainley Hoekzema, and coxswain Emma Sieger. Lehigh University (8:36.77) took the top spot.
The women's second varsity 4 collected fourth place in the final 2 by stopping the timer in 9:12.67. The crew consisted of Jill Segel, Catherine Martin, Zoey Ames, Molly Cleary, and coxswain Grace Tyszka. UConn won the final 2 with a time of 8:49.81.
The women's rowing team returns to the water on Saturday, April 25 for a quad meet with Monmouth University, Stetson University, and host Sacred Heart University. The men's rowing team competes against Marist University and Colgate University on the same day in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
