Stags Net 96 in Win Over Niagara

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team netted a season-high 96 points while shooting 60 percent from the field and 48 percent from 3-point range in another dominating 96-49 victory over Niagara. The win improves Fairfield's conference record to 6-0 this year and extends their winning streak to 29-straight against MAAC opponents dating back to the end of the 2022-23 season. Meghan Andersen led a quartet of Stags in double-figures with 20 points while going 4-5 from long-range.

"We created great shots for one another," Head Coach Carly Thibault-DuDonis said. "I thought there were great decisions all-around and not just with our point guards. You saw with Jill [Huerter], and Syd [Scott], and Ken [McGruder], and those guys make great decisions with the basketball. When we had numbers they found the wide-open shooters."

The 96 points were the most points scored in regulation by a Fairfield team since Feburary 18, 2002 in a 97-71 win over Canisius. The 47-point margin was also the second-most in program history and one shy of the program mark which was snapped by a Niagara with four seconds remaining.

After battling Niagara to a one-possession game in the first quarter, the Stags (12-3, 6-0 MAAC) would outscore the Purple Eagles 77-33 over the final 30 minutes.

After Niagara took a 16-13 lead in the final minute of the first quarter, the Stags would go on a 15-0 run to take the lead and eventually pull the advantage to double-digits. Fairfield would hit three-straight 3-pointers including back-to-back trifectas from Sydni Scott in the matter of 30 seconds.

Fairfield would net 30 points in the third quarter, their highest scoring quarter of the season. The Stags shot 69 percent during that period with seven different Stags getting into the scoring column. Andersen led the Stags with eight points during the third.

In total, the Stags had 10 different players net at least one basket with five different student-athletes connecting on a pair of 3-pointers. Fairfield also set a season-high with 26 assists led by Izabela Nicoletti Leite's eight. Kaety L'Amoreaux dished out a career-high seven.

Andersen led the Stags with 20 points on an efficient 7-for-9 from the floor and 4-for-5 from long-range. Cyanne Coe added a career-high 14 points on 6-for-8 shooting. Through her first six MAAC games, the freshman is shooting 71 percent from the field.

The win was Fairfield's second-straight of at least 35 points and the Stags hold an average winning margin of 29 points in conference games.

The Stags will wrap up their Western New York swing at Canisius on Saturday at 1pm.
