Rowing Competes At Spring Metropolitan Championships

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The Fairfield University rowing teams traveled to the Novak Memorial Metropolitan Championship on Sunday afternoon, competing against nine programs from across the area.

The Stags opened their day with the varsity 4 event as the women's program placed three entries into the various heats. Fairfield's varsity A boat finished second in 8:47.31 while the C boat took fifth place with a time of 9:57.1 in the first heat of the day. The B boat was entered in the second heat and secured fourth place. In the grand final, the A boat garnered fourth based on their finish of 9:33.7.

The Stags A entry included Mia Van Mater, Julie Pedrazzi, Ava Forgione, Grace McDonough, and coxswain Grace Tyska. The B boat was comprised by Caity Gregitis, Lauren Esposito, Olivia Burghardt, Catherine Martin, and coxswain Alyssa Colombrita. The C shell consisted of Raquel DeLeo, Cailey Chechitelli, Grace Polatsek, Alex Harrington, and coxswain Alisa Tsavaris.

The women's varsity 8 was the next event and the Stags represented well with a second place run that ended with a time of 7:51.3. The crew included Arianna Welton, Sarah Wendling, Kathryn Bergstrom, Molly Squire, Victoria Conrad, Megan Blair, Emily Regan, Catherine Morrissey, and coxswain Marianna Kalin.

The men's JV8 was next on the docket with the Stags placing two boats into the event. Fairfield's A boat won the event with a time of 7:12.6 thanks to the efforts of George Voegele, Mike McCarthy, Frank DiNatale, Sam Elliott, Spencer Chidley, Jack Cartnick, Brendan Martin, Nick Tapinis, and coxswain Tom Flynn. The B boat was third after crossing the line in 7:41.3 courtesy of James Casper, Zach Siwiec, Brian Peknic, Alex Hemmat, James Penczak, Tom McLaughlin, Lanyon Henwood, and coxswain Maddie Gross.

The men's varsity 8 collected third place in its race with a time of 7:15.2 as Michael Hamilton, Luca Tarricone, Zalan Kovacs, Connor Carroll, Jerry Malloy, Ryan Wrynn, Ean Ray, Brady Stergion, and coxswain Matt Tarabocchia.

The women's JV8 ended the day for Fairfield and secured second place in 8:22.6 with Lauren Hoppe, Shawn O'Brien, Miranda Schmidt, Megan Rourke, Kelly Cullen, Zuzanna Janusz, Shaylin Tombs, Sophia Savage, and coxswain Lexi Tomlinson completing the shell.
