Softball Wins Series With Decision Over Quinnipiac

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University put together one of its best offensive games of the season, posting a 9-0 win over Quinnipiac University to win the three-game series by two games to one. Bailey Taylor picked up her second complete game shutout in as many days, giving her 14 scoreless innings over the last 24 hours.

The Stags would get all they would need to win this game in the bottom of the first inning, posting five runs off six hits and batting around the lineup. The team had a 1-0 lead just three batters into the game when Charli Warren earned a one-out bunt single, stole second, and came home on Allie Bridgman's single. After Delaney Whieldon's single, Megan Forbes lofted a sacrifice fly to bring home Bridgman and double the Fairfield advantage. Anna Paravati, Cara Kochakian, and Martina Guitierrez also brought home a runner with a base hit to account for the 5-0 lead.

After Taylor retired the side in order, Fairfield rallied once again when Morgan Sylvestre single, stole second and came around on another Bridgman RBI single to increase the advantage to 6-0.

Quinnipiac managed to gain a base runner when Sofia Vega doubled to start the inning but Taylor fanned two of the next three hitters to leave her stranded in scoring position. The Stags moved the score to 7-0 when Danica Silvestri ripped a one-out single, setting up Kochakian's run scoring triple that made it all the way to the right-center field fence.

Taylor trotted out to the circle in the top of the fourth but did not stay too long as the senior faced and retired three batters, sending Fairfield back to the dugout for one more rally. After the first two batters made an out, the Stags put together a string of three hits and benefitted from a wild pitch to provide an additional two runs. Whieldon and Forbes were responsible for the first two singles and Paravati brought home Whieldon with a hit. Forbes eventually scored on a wild pitch to close out the Stags' scoring.

Taylor went out to the circle one more time, and despite surrendering a hit, made quick work of the Bobcats to earn the win and improve her overall record to 6-5. She scattered three hits and struck out three batters in her five innings of work.

Fairfield will return to the diamond next Tuesday when it hosts Central Connecticut State University of a single game, the first of five home games next week for the Stags. The home stand will also include a single game with Sacred Heart and a three-game set with Marist College.
