Stags Stopped by UMass

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Baseball team fell by a 12-5 final score against visiting UMass at Don and Chris Cook Field on Wednesday. The Stags scored all five of their runs in the bottom of the ninth highlighted by an Aidan Baglino bases clearing double. Paul Catalano also drove in two with a single up the middle to account for the Fairfield offense.

Fairfield trailed 12-0 heading into the bottom half of the ninth before the Fairfield reserves got a run on the board. The first four hitters reached base with three of those being pinch hitters. Catalano lined a pitch up the middle in his only at-bat of the game. With the bases loaded, Baglino lined a pitch down the left field line, scoring all three runs and accounting for the 12-5 final score.

The Stags used eight pitchers in the game with four of them not allowing a run. Kyle Lesler tossed the first two innings without allowing a run and striking out one. Fairfield also got scoreless outings from: Chris DiFiore, Bo Buckley, and Emmett Tolis. Buckley was the sharpest of the group, needing just nine pitches to get out of the sixth.

Offensively, Dean Ferrara led the Stags with three hits as he went 3-for-4 on the day.

Fairfield will be back in action when they host Saint Peter's in a three-game conference series starting on Friday at 3pm.
