Softball Falls To Yale On Final Day Of West Coast Trip

FULLERTON, Calif. – The Fairfield University softball team ended their West Coast swing by dropping a game against Yale University, falling by a 7-2 count.

The Bulldogs struck first with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. Yale used three singles and took advantage of an error to push its first two base runners across home plate. Two of those base hits were of the RBI variety from consecutive batters.

After the Stags were retired in order in the bottom of the inning, Yale countered with four more runs in its second time in the batter's box. This time, the Bulldogs were able to put together four hits including a two-run double to open the scoring followed by a two-run single later in the inning.

Yale closed out its offensive output with a single run in the fourth inning to increase its lead to 7-0 after a sacrifice fly chased home another base runner.

Fairfield found its way on the scoreboard in the sixth inning, putting together a two-out rally. Charli Warren started things with a bunt single between the catcher and pitcher and moved to second after Morgan Sylvestre followed with her second base hit of the game.

Allie Bridgman came up next and drove a single up the middle to send Warren home while Sylvestre made her way around the bases on the same play after a throwing error allowed her to touch the plate.

Bridgman, Alyssa Weinberg, and Bailey Taylor combined to pitch the seven innings this afternoon as the trio combined to strikeout three batters. Taylor pitched the final four innings without allowing a run and just one hit.

Fairfield returns to the Northeast for a weekday match up with Yale University on Wednesday before moving south for another in-season tournament at the University of Maryland. The Stags will face Purdue-Fort Wayne, Lafayette, Bryant, and the host from March 16-17.
